American Democracy Watch is an independent, left-leaning platform for political analysis, commentary, and opinion, founded by Frank Faiola, a political science student at Florida State University. His academic interests include democratic institutions, political behavior, political psychology, public accountability, and the relationship between law and democratic governance.

 

American Democracy Watch examines political developments that affect democratic institutions, civil liberties, political accountability, and the exercise of public power. Its primary focus is American politics and democracy, while international developments are considered when they provide relevant context or insight into broader political and democratic trends.

 

The publication approaches politics from the left and does not claim political neutrality. Its commentary may advance political arguments, criticize institutions and public officials, and take positions on contested issues. That perspective, however, does not change the standards applied to factual claims.

American Democracy Watch was created on the premise that democracy requires scrutiny rather than passive observation. Its purpose is not simply to recount political events, but to analyze how power is exercised, examine the institutions and individuals who wield it, challenge abuses of that power, and explain why political developments matter for democratic government.
