Our Mission

American Democracy Watch is dedicated to analyzing threats to democratic institutions, scrutinizing the exercise and concentration of political power, and contributing to a more accountable and resilient democratic system.

We approach political questions through a political science lens, emphasizing evidence, institutional analysis, and democratic accountability. Our work examines the forces associated with democratic backsliding—including attacks on electoral integrity, erosion of institutional constraints, political violence, corruption, disinformation, and efforts to undermine the rule of law.

Democratic stability also depends on how power is distributed throughout society. American Democracy Watch examines the role of economic inequality, corporate and special-interest influence, and other structural imbalances that can distort political representation and weaken meaningful democratic accountability.

Beyond publishing original analysis, American Democracy Watch seeks to provide a platform for informed political argument and public engagement. Contributors are invited to submit commentary, analysis, perspectives, and research for consideration. Disagreement is welcome; factual claims should be supported, arguments should withstand scrutiny, and political questions should be examined rather than avoided.

Defending democracy requires more than identifying threats to it. It requires participation, accountability, transparency, and a willingness to challenge the concentration and abuse of power wherever they occur.
